May 31st, 2019 - The Southwestern Bioinformatics Conference (SBC) is the first conference held to celebrate bioinformatics research in the Southwest United States. Organized jointly by the Undergraduate and Graduate Bioinformatics Clubs at UC San Diego, the event will unite undergraduates, graduates, and faculty to learn about the wonderful bioinformatics research being conducted.
Talks will feature faculty covering research topics spanning epigenomics to cancer informatics. In addition, the Conference will conclude with a 'Grad Hour'. This segment will feature graduate students from a variety of institutions, presenting their research findings in short 3-minute style lightning talks. The organizers believe this format will encourage greater audience participation and understanding. The goal of SBC is to promote interinstitutional bioinformatics research, education, and collaboration. It is our hope that by uniting the diverse viewpoints of undergraduates, graduates, and faculty we can provide a diverse set of viewpoints and ideas to inform and balance one another.
